Playing Dress-up (2013)

Originally "Sight" from Caroline Rust's Little Girls Are Made of Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice Senses Series (a tribute to The Lady and the Unicorn Tapestries at the Cluny Museum, analyzing six senses with “woman” as a central figure), this installation is built upon a backbone of self-branding and self-image. Aiding one's strategy is the mastery of marketing; reinventing oneself, presenting a frontal image in which one could live out her life from behind. Duality pending, are things ever really quite as they seem? With the whoosh of sparkling fresh fabric belonging to our polished new dress (or the gleam of a crisp new coat of paint), we can easily re-fashion what is underneath. Yet, if not mindful, our own image of ourselves can put weight on a situation.
